Chapter Eleven

Imogene

"Are you done?" my gaze jerked up to the servant who waited patiently by my seat. I could tell by her forced smile she had been waiting there for a few minutes.

"Yes, I am," I moved away from the breakfast table, so they could clear it.

Distracted all day, I couldn't keep my mind off what happened last night with Cole. I'd decided to take my sister's advice. Though we had left things at touching, it was still more experience than I’d had before.

Now, I couldn't even look at him without blushing. Though, I really had every reason to blush. Cole had touched my most private parts. The part I had barely ever touched. Just thinking about how expertly he had played my body made heat settle between my thighs.

I stomped my way through the hallways and out the main building. The short trek to the tower didn't bother me, it gave me time to think, and the weather was usually rather pleasant. Today was no exception.

Sun high in the sky, a slight breeze kept the temperature cool. The sound of swords clashing -

Stopping in my tracks, I craned my neck to listen for the distinctive sound once more. I didn't have long to wait a second later the sound of metal hitting metal filled my ears.

Before I knew what I was doing, my feet moved toward the sound. For some reason, I worried the holder of one of the swords would be Cole.

Had my parents found out about Prince Harold? Did they send someone to punish Cole? The thought of him being hurt made my heart hurt in a peculiar way which made my feet move faster.

When I arrived at the fenced off area, my heart leaped to my throat. Cole. Bare-chested and sweating profusely was engaged in battle with a similar looking man. They didn't seem to be angry but there was a determination on each of their faces which had them swinging their swords in the air, each of them letting out a war cry.

Before I could stop it, I cried out, "Cole!"

Cole's eyes flickered over to me his attack stopping mid-swing. Because of his distraction, his opponent disarmed him and then kicked out hitting Cole in the chest and sending him onto his back.

Horrified my hands went to my mouth as I gasped. As the man walked over to Cole, he smiled and laughed. I gathered my skirts in my hands and rushed down to the opening of the pen. The dress I wore kept me from reaching Cole first but when the other man reached him he didn't try to deliver a finishing blow. Instead, he squatted beside Cole and started to say something I couldn't hear.

Cole shook his head with a grimace and pushed himself up on one arm. The man offered him a hand, which Cole accepted and let himself be helped to his feet just as I landed beside them.

"What are you doing out here, lass?" Cole asked with a curious raise of his brow.
